Chances are, your trip to Venice is a once in a lifetime excursion. You will want to make the most of it, by visiting as many sights and attractions as you possibly can in the time you have. Here are ten things you must see and do when you're in Venice.
1) St. Mark's Basilica: It is free to tour this amazing church, and you can even book a tour online so you don't have to wait outside with the masses. The inside contains wall-to-wall mosaics, and the outside is just as beautiful with onion-shaped domes and unique architecture. There are three smaller museums inside, and each charge a small fee, but it is well worth it.
2) Grand Canal Tour: The Grand Canal has been described as having grandeur, romance and beauty. This is the perfect way to see the city, especially at dusk when the sun is setting and you are with your special someone.

3) Doge's Palace: The entry price of the tour is well worth it, as you tour this palace located right next to St. Mark's Basilica (actually partly connected to it.) A walk on the Bridge of Sighs will complete your tour and help you understand why this is one of the most popular attractions.
4) Burano Island: Take in the brightly-coloured buildings as you stroll around this island. It is usually less crowded than other parts of Venice, and is perfect if you're looking for some quiet time alone or with your significant other.
5) Rialto Bridge: This is a memorable sight, especially as seen from a Vaporetto; this arched bridge is lined with shops. This can be an

expensive place to buy your souvenirs from, so keep your budget in mind when you come here.
6) St. Mark's Square: If you really want to get the most of this sight, come in the early morning or evening, when most of the tourists are gone.
7) Gondola Ride: No trip to Venice is complete without a gondola ride; it can be a little pricy, but is well worth it.

8) Torcello Island: This is a great spot for hiking if you're a nature lover; even though only about 20 people live here, it has a restaurant, a hotel and a church that is every bit as beautiful as St. Mark's.
9) Lido: Only a short 20 minute aquabus ride from Venice, this island is full of restaurants, cafes, and shops.
10) Clock Tower: A great sight for the history buff, this is an interesting building with unique architecture.
