Quaint canals, gorgeous architecture and a culture that is steeped in art and history- Venice is any traveler's dream destination. But a visit to the "Queen of the Adriatic" certainly doesn't come cheap. In fact it is well known to be one of the most expensive places to holiday in the world mainly owing to the steep rates charged by the hotels in Venice.
But don't give up on your Venice vacation yet because if you just read on you will be getting some pointers on how to obtain a cheap room in the city. You will find that with the right amount of know-how, some smart planning and a little bit of luck you might very well end up with a really good deal!
  1. Go off-season: May, June and September are the months to avoid. Being the time with the most pleasant weather in Venice, it is when the city is packed with tourists driving up the hotel rates. July and August is low-season and the hotels generally give good discounts during this period. You will also enjoy some good bargains with your shopping. The down side of course is the stifling summer heat. The best time for a budget traveler to visit Venice would be November through January. One can enjoy some reasonably pleasant weather while paying less for your boarding
  2. Avoid the Tourist Hot Spots: Piazza San Marco and the surrounding areas are popular with tourists and therefore it houses some of the most expensive hotels in Venice. Save your Euros and steer clear of that area while you look for your hotel. One can find some cheap hotels in Venice in Dorsoduro and San Polo. If you're ready to compromise a little on those "picture-perfect" canal vistas, the Cannaregio neighborhood is where you should head for cheap hotels in Venice.
  3. Do your research and book online: For the best bargains always plan before hand and book way ahead of time- maybe as much as three months. Remember Venice is a very popular tourist destination and rooms get sold out fast! Also it's a good idea to read some candid reviews of past visitors. You might hit upon some suggestions on places to stay.
  4. Consider alternatives: For those on a really tight budget youth hostels might be just the right solution. There is one located on Giudecca called The Ostello della Gioventu Venezia. But mind you, even these rooms get filled up quickly.
So you see, the romance of Venice is still within your reach! All you need to do is act fast and you are sure to find some cheap hotels in Venice.
